Monsanto

Monsanto was founded in St.Louis, Missouri in 1901. Its original purpose was to be a producer of plastics and other chemical compounds. These chemical compounds eventually included DDT, Agent Orange, and rBGH (recombinant bovine growth hormone). In 1987 Monsanto began production of GMO (genetically modified organism) seeds. The GMO crops produced have made there way into over 90% of all prepared food items.

There is no way to avoid bias on this topic; this agra-giant is the most evil corporation in existence. Let us begin with the toxic chemicals they manufactured nearly 50 years ago.

DDT wast first used as a pesticide in 1939. In the 1950s DDT's harmful qualities began to surface and in 1957 the New York Times first published an article about the struggle to ban DDT in Nassau County. It was not until 1985 that the chemical was last shipped overseas. Studies were conducted beginning in 1967, but due to several senior officials being tied financially to big agrabusiness, it was not until 1973 that DDT was banned, and not until 1985 that the last shipment was sent overseas.

Agent Orange was a herbicide used by the US military in Operation Ranch Hand during the Vietnam War. The United States sprayed 20 million gallons of Agent Orange across South Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. The primary objective was to destroy forests and vegetation to hinder the guerrilla tactics of the Viet Cong  as well as attack their food supply. It is estimated that Agent Orange is responsible for the deaths and severe injury of 400,000 people and 500,000 birth defects in children. The Red Cross estimates that 1 million people have health problems directly attributed to the use of Agent Orange.

Let us fast forward to present day. Monsanto, which is a chemical company that produces pesticides, is also an agriculture company. Great for them, terrible for everyone else.

Monsanto produces GMO seeds which are resistant to the pesticides they produce. This means that farmers are able to bathe the GMO seeds in pesticide without killing the crop. The crop that grows produces seeds that cannot grow with the current pesticide. So farmers must purchase the new brand of seeds and pesticides every year. The chokehold of Monsanto has driven nearly 200,000 farmers to suicide by destroying their once fertile land and monopolizing the seed industry.

If the unethical business practices weren't bad enough, the GMO crops that Monsanto is responsible for producing are proven to be hazardous to health. Monsanto's own studies do not say this however; This is because their studies do not exceed 90 days.

In a French study, rats were fed GMO "roundup ready" corn. during a two year period, 50% of males and 70% of females dies prematurely. The rats had severe kidney and liver damage as well as mammary tumors. All of these negative effects occurred AFTER 90 days.  When comparing the GMO-fed rats to control rats, 93% of the time GMO-fed rats had worse health condition.

Most troubling of all, President Obama recently signed into law the Monsanto Protection Act (officially called "Farmer Assurance Provision") which makes it impossible for federal courts to halt the sale of GMO crops or seeds no matter what health concerns may eventually be proven. This bill grants immunity to a company that makes POISONED FOOD. Surely you must be wondering how on earth a bill like this could be signed into law. Here is your answer:

These criminals must be stopped at all costs. They are pillaging the earth and leaving the corpses of millions in their wake. MARCH!
